Minimalist Clothing Options for Women

April 17, 2020

In a world full of too many clothing options for women, it’s no wonder that more and more women are wanting to create a minimalist wardrobe.

My private clients crave a minimalist style, where they can create more outfits with less stuff in their closet. They want minimalist clothing options for their lifestyle which will allow for them to feel confident-every single day.

After working with women of all body types, ages and professions- here are 10 of my favorite minimalist clothing options for women.

Women’s Minimalist Brand 01. Theory

What:

Theory is a New York City based minimalist clothing brand that does high quality items very well. It’s a staple in my personal wardrobe as well as my client’s closet too.

Theory’s effortless designs focus on fit, fabric and style- very similar to those styling beliefs of Next Level Wardrobe.

They source materials from the best mills in the world and test every fabric for its hand feel, quality and durability.

Why:

I’ve put clients of various body types, professions and locations in their clothing and it always looks so effortless.

Theory’s stylish pieces are classic items that you can wear all together for a more effortless look, or mix with bolder colors/prints to make a statement.

No matter when you buy a Theory staple and use the Next Level Wardrobe styling system, you’ll be certain that your investment will last for years to come, will go with everything else in your closet and you’ll actually love to wear.

My insider styling tip:

I highly recommend their Neoteric Tech Raffi Pant for men- the fabric has properties of performance material (stretchy, lightweight, easy maintenance) and is so comfortable.

Women’s Minimalist Brand 02. Eileen Fisher

What:

In 1984, Eileen Fisher started her own namesake line because (like so many people) she was having trouble getting dressed.

She couldn’t sew and had $350 in her savings account but she persisted and has built a company with 1100 employees all over the world.

Why:

Eileen Fisher is a minimalist clothing brand for women that my client’s love and focuses on simple, low maintenance, high quality items.

Her clothing will allow for you to move throughout your day with comfort and ease.

Her collections focus on organic/sustainable fibers, offered at petite, regular and extended sizing. She creates clothing for all body types and backgrounds.

My insider styling tip:

Her clothing runs big! I recommend going 1-2 sizes down from what you normally are.

Women’s Minimalist Brand 03. Nili Lotan

What:

Before launching her namesake line, Nili Lotan lead design teams at Ralph Lauren and Liz Claiborne.

In 2003, she launched her own line, designing a wardrobe of luxurious, timeless pieces for women today.

Why:

Nili Lotan has high quality minimalist basics- everything from comfortable cashmere sweaters, to sexy silk tops and sophisticated trousers.

This brand is great for women who want an elevated minimalist style that they can wear to business casual offices, or casual dress codes.

My insider styling tip:

I’m a big fan of her denim.

It looks effortless, sophisticated and is so versatile to wear to casual offices, weekends or travel. I bought a pair a while ago and it still feels like brand new!

Women’s Minimalist Brand 04. Lou and Grey

What:

Lou and Grey is a sister brand of Ann Taylor Loft that focuses on lifestyle/athleisure wear. They make minimalist women’s clothing that is so soft and very comfortable to wear.

Why:

Lou and Grey is a good go to for those looking for comfortable basics to wear to a casual work environment or on the weekends.

The fit of their clothing is flattering for all body types (they go up to 2X) and you’ll have for years to come!

My insider styling tip:

Their signature soft collection has the coziest loungewear that will make you want to relax all day. Available in a variety of styles and colors- this collection is perfect for those who have a more casual lifestyle.

Women’s Minimalist Brand 05. Suistudio

What:

Suistudio is the sister brand of Suitsupply and is my go-to for women’s minimalist clothing for formal and business casual offices.

They have a European flair (headquarters are in Europe) but with classic fabrics, fits and outfits.

Suistudio brings a tailored approach to women’s fashion, focusing on luxury fit and tailoring at an approachable price point.

Why:

When you think of women’s suiting, you may think of items that are dated, baggy and unflattering.

Suistudio does exactly the opposite of that with their various fits, fabrications and minimalist clothing options.

You can get everything from a classic suit (in a core color of course) or more trendy basics in a seasonal color. They have something for everyone!

My insider styling tip:

Don’t fit a suit off the rack? No problem!

Suistudio makes it very easy to get the perfect fit (in store!) with their trained tailors that are on site to help you feel most comfortable in your minimalist clothing purchases.

For a nominal fee they’ll fit you right on the spot and even ship to your home when it’s ready.

Women’s Minimalist Brand 06. Club Monaco

What:

Club Monaco was founded in 1985 in Toronto with the idea of creating a line of “better basics”. It has everything for the modern woman that works in a formal, business casual or casual office.

Why:

Club Monaco is an underground go-to for many of my clients. Their stores show you how to effortlessly blend formal and more casual pieces for your minimalist wardrobe and are high quality.

They also offer other categories to complete your head to toe looks- footwear, jewelry and scarves, which all are perfect for your minimalist style.

My insider styling tip:

One of my favorite categories from Club Monaco is their outerwear. Be sure to check out their coat selections during the winter to find something classic but with a twist!

Women’s Minimalist Brand 07. Cuyana

What:

Cuyana’s based in NYC and their belief is that you should own fewer, but better things- a true minimalist statement.

They create a timeless collection for modern, minimalist women that focuses on carefully selected fabrics, the perfect fit and attention to detail.

Why:

With a high quality minimalist wardrobe at its core, Cuyana focuses on creating and selling only those items that you’ll wear often for years to come.

It’s one of the few brands out there that has products that really support a minimalist style and doesn’t follow trends and is for a modern woman.

My insider styling tip:

Cuyana has great options for leather handbags and accessories.

They’re offered in soft leather, a variety of colors and shapes- you can even monogram them with your initials to make it more personal.

Women’s Minimalist Brand 08. Universal Standard

What:

Universal Standard was found by two women who were frustrated that she was unable to find stylish clothes that fit her as a size 20 woman.

They specialize in offering high quality, minimalist clothing for women that focuses on size inclusivity- from US 00-40.

Why:

They seriously have something for everyone- extended sizing, petites, casual wear to more formal clothing.

Most items take a minimalist approach, so in core colors that you can blend back to more bold pieces and high quality so they’ll last.

My insider styling tip:

Universal Standard has a ‘Fit Liberty’ guarantee which empowers you to shop for the woman in the mirror, not the number on your label.

If your size shifts up (or down) they’ll replace your clothing– completely complimentary. Any piece within the Fit Liberty collection is eligible for a 1 year size swap.

Women’s Minimalist Brand 09. Jennifer Fisher

What:

After working as a stylist, NYC Based Jennifer Fisher wanted to design a necklace to commemorate a trying pregnancy with her son.

She couldn’t find anything in the market that wasn’t overly feminine- she wanted something that felt more powerful and substantial.

So she made her own jewelry and soon after she launched her namesake line in the early 2000’s.

Why:

Jennifer Fisher’s line focuses on quality, minimalist jewelry and is my go-to brand for hoops.

If you’re ready to invest more into quality jewelry that won’t tarnish after a week, her jewelry pieces are a good option.

My insider styling tip:

If you don’t wear much jewelry that’s ok- I’m the same. I’d recommend getting a pair of hoop earrings in gold and silver- that’s all you need to create a minimalist jewelry collection.

Women’s Minimalist Brand 10. Veja

What:

Veja is a French brand for footwear and accessories, well known for their sneakers.

They have an environmental-friendly approach as they focus on using vegetable tanned leather and recycled plastic bottles.

Why:

Veja has high quality sneakers which focus on a more minimalist design.

You won’t find bold patterns or obnoxious colors- but a more timeless style. Their sneakers also have a retro feel, but don’t look like you’re trying too hard.

My insider styling tip:

Sneakers don’t come in half sizes so if you’re unsure what size to invest in, order one side up and down from your normal size to find the perfect fit.
