Behind the scenes of Stef’s virtual styling service with Next Level Wardrobe.
About Stef
Canadian entrepreneur Stef is a busy mom, a global business strategist, and someone who just didn’t have much time to think about what to wear everyday.
After having her baby, she kept putting off investing in her wardrobe because she kept saying “I’d do it when I was back to my normal size.”
But it wasn’t until she said she invested in her health and wellness more seriously that she also wanted to invest in curating her wardrobe to her best style and fit.
When Stef first came to me for styling services, she felt her old clothing didn’t fit her current shape, as her body had endured transitions through pregnancy and postpartum life. She wanted to have a style that was her and that made her feel comfortable and confident for any occasion, especially working with her executive clients.
She purchased my Virtual Styling Service because she said she liked my “minimalist style that was focused on quality and comfort, and loved the system.”
“I was wearing things that didn’t reflect who I wanted to be. I would wear go-to pieces that were kind of good but never unequivocally great. I also never felt 100% confident,” Stef mentioned.
Step #1: The closet cleanout
Stef’s before closet
As with any virtual styling client, I started by helping Stef assess what she already had in her closet, including what was working and what wasn’t. Great style begins and ends with the closet.
We began by getting rid of items that weren’t working, either because they didn’t fit her, didn’t make her feel confident, or didn’t reflect her style goals as a successful female entrepreneur.
Stef felt lighter without those old clothes weighing her down, and taking up both mental and physical space. With all of my clients, I teach a simple and valuable process for closet cleanouts that will make your space and wardrobe work for you, rather than adding stress to your life.
Step #2: Online shopping
I spend time with each of my virtual clients getting to know their lifestyle, goals, and closet well.
Because of this, I was able to select products for Stef’s new wardrobe that she’d feel comfortable and put together in every day. These pieces were authentic to her personality and style, making them instant favorites for her closet.
Developing capsule wardrobes with my clients means that they don’t have to have many clothes, but rather the right clothes.
I work with clients by teaching them not only what items will work well for them, but why, with an eye for minimalist brands that they will be able to return to again and again in the future.
Here are some items that I picked for Stef:
Step #3: the 1-hour fit session
At first, Stef was hesitant about conducting a fit session virtually.
“I wasn’t sure how the virtual sessions would work because not seeing the fit up close and in person,” she said. But in the end, she said she was surprised at how effective it actually was.
During the 1-hour fit session, which takes place after the virtual styling client receives all of their items in the mail, we decide what to keep or send back based on fit and look.
We discussed how to mix and match outfits, and especially how to integrate the pieces to create the perfect work-from-home wardrobe, which she’d be using the rest of the year.
Here are two of my favorite outfits for her, using items that she bought and loved:
Outfit #1
This outfit is perfect for a casual weekend or running errands during the week. Notice how the shorts have a drawcord (great for body transitions) and the navy cardigan provides a light layer if needed.
Outfit #2
Stef will be working from home for the remainder of the year, so it’s important for her to look and feel put together for her virtual calls.
The best part about this outfit is that you can interchange the t-shirt with a blouse to make it more ‘formal’ for calls. This outfit gives her the ultimate versatility for her busy lifestyle.
In the end, Stef was so satisfied with the process that she allowed me to feature the process in this virtual styling service profile so others could have an inside look at just how effective and efficient building a minimalist wardrobe can be.
“I now know whatever I pull out, it’ll match, fit and I’ll feel great in it,” she said.
