Style boredom is one of the top challenges I hear about, but you can overcome it with these four easy ways to refresh your wardrobe.
1. Play with accessories
Bags, shoes, scarves, and jewelry are the key to spicing up and diversifying your wardrobe, especially for those who already have a capsule wardrobe.
With a more minimalist wardrobe, you’ll waste no time wondering if your accessories look okay, or coordinate with your outfit– they always will!
This easy trick helps my female personal styling clients feel excited about getting dressed again. Opt for one statement piece per outfit. Maybe your favorite pair of bright earrings or a statement bag will refresh your wardrobe and ensure you don’t get bored with your own personal style. 2. Get rid of old stuff that isn’t “you” anymore
Great style begins and ends with your closet, so if it’s been a few years since you’ve truly taken inventory of your closet, it’s time.
A thorough edit will reveal quickly what doesn’t fit, and also what styles just don’t suit your personality or lifestyle anymore.
Getting rid of an item that doesn’t feel like “you” is a perfectly valid reason, and will help you create a wardrobe that represents your true personal brand and style.
A closet cleanout has the added benefit of not just more space, but getting you excited for the fashion possibilities to come in your wardrobe. Making space mentally as well allows for true transformation.
Once your space and your mind are free from the clutter of constricting old jeans and styles you wore a decade ago, you can move forward with refreshing your wardrobe.

3. Try consignment shopping
It’s certainly not new, but it’s a trend that’s been picking up steam in the past few years as people gravitate towards secondhand shopping. It’s affordable and environmentally friendly, and just may inspire a refreshing change in your wardrobe.
The key to consignment shopping with a purpose to focus specifically and intentionally on what you are looking to buy, without getting sidetracked by other items just because they are available.
Building a capsule wardrobe focuses on function, comfort, and intentionality.
Start with one of my favorite consignment sites, the Real Real, where I’ve found some interesting items in perfect condition.
4. Go back to the basics
Even though you have a closet full of clothes- do you feel like you have ‘nothing to wear?’
It’s because you don’t have the right basics in your closet. Think of ‘basics’ (or essentials) as the unifying pieces that you need to create outfits easily.
When you’re shopping for basics, be intentional about your purchases by making a list of items you need, then use the filters on websites to lead you right to those items. For example, if you need a new classic white t-shirt, you can sort by gender, item type, and color to create a simplified shopping experience.
And don’t forget to invest in the core colors first- black, white, grey and navy.
