A few years ago, I shared a behind-the-scenes look at styling my husband, Ramit Sethi for his 2019 book tour.
At that time, it was an opportunity to show how much his style and professionalism had evolved since the release of his book “I Will Teach You to Be Rich” ten years prior.
Since that book tour, Ramit has had even more opportunities to showcase his career and style evolution, including his eight-part Netflix series “How to Get Rich.” You can see how I styled him for the show here.
His latest book, “Money for Couples,” explores how couples can discuss money without stress. It offers down-to-earth advice on building trust, handling shared expenses, and getting on the same financial page.
So, let’s take a look at what’s different from styling him this time around.
Ramit, 2025 Edition

This past year, Ramit published his latest book, Money For Couples, and we set off on his book tour at the beginning of 2025. For this trip, I knew he had some of the same goals as the last time I styled him, like balancing style with functionality, ensuring he looked professional, and bringing out his personal brand.
But this tour was also under different circumstances. He’d be on stage instead of a table at Barnes & Noble. Not only that, but he’d be bringing couples on stage. This book is about discussing and navigating finances as couples and part of each night of his tour meant bringing actual couples up on stage from the audience to talk about money.
I knew that his style would be paramount for people to feel more comfortable talking with him about the often sensitive topic of personal finances. My goal was to balance his appearance of trustworthiness and professionalism with his seeming lightheartedness and friendliness.
So here’s how I, Cassandra Sethi, styled Ramit for his book tour for five distinct audiences around the country: Boston, Chicago, New York City, Washington DC, and San Francisco.
Boston
![Ramit Sethi on stage in Boston for his book tour, "Money for Couples."](https://nextlevelwardrobe.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/250102_MFC_Boston_0406-1024x683.jpg)
The first stop on Ramit Sethi’s book tour was Boston. If you’re unfamiliar with Boston and the New England area in general here’s my number one tip: keep your outfits more reserved.
Boston is more conservative than New York and definitely more conservative than any West Coast city. With that in mind, I wanted to ensure that his outfit felt formal enough without being too stuffy.
A great way to do this is with a structured hero piece like this pinstriped jacket. Structured pieces instantly read as more dressed up and polished. Another key feature of this jacket was that it was lightweight. With walking around and being on stage under all those bright lights, I knew he’d run hot, so making sure this piece was breathable was key.
The great thing about having an outfit with a strong hero piece is that it’s easy to finish this look. If you’re familiar with the Next Level Wardrobe Style System, you already know what I will say: pair back a statement piece to core colors. Neutrals like black, white, navy blue, and gray are the core colors that go with everything. Therefore, they’re a must in your styling routine.

We brought this look together with gray pants, a white tee, and sneakers. Just like that, day one of the tour was in the books.
Washington DC
![Ramit Sethi aligning his style with the Washington DC culture.](https://nextlevelwardrobe.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/250103_MFC_WDC_0890-683x1024.jpg)
Another city with a more conservative style culture is Washington, DC. The culture revolves around government work and more “traditional” fields. So, to match the city’s energy, we kept Ramit’s look subtle.
I styled him in this great multi-toned soft knit with lots of texture.
If you’re not big on colors and patterns but don’t want your outfit to seem boring, lean into textures. This went great over a navy shirt with a light texture.
For pants, we opted for these tan ones with a pleat. The pleated style is fantastic for moving around, so I knew they would keep him comfortable for the hours he’d be on stage.
If you’ve noticed, there’s a bit of a science to these outfits: finding a statement layering piece and building the outfit around that. This is an easy way to create countless outfits, especially in the colder seasons. Plus, Ramit has become known for this look, so it felt natural to incorporate it.

Chicago

Chicago was stop three of the tour. I wanted to follow the same outfit formula of a great layering piece and power casual staples. But instead of a structured jacket, we reached for a knock-out cardigan sweater this time.
This cozy tan sweater is comfortable and soft, features a textured knit for subtle visual interest, and is light in color, making it warm and approachable. Wearing too many dark colors can make you look too severe or stuffy. Just think if you saw Ramit in a drab black suit on this book tour instead of this combo…
I went with a high-quality, simple T-shirt and pants with a slightly wider fit for Ramit. This more relaxed silhouette is in style for men and women right now. I like it because it gives a more modern, laid-back vibe without seeming sloppy. It looks trend-aware without sacrificing good fit.
A couple of details made this look: the socks and the shoes. On this tour, I was a stickler about ensuring all the socks and pants matched. When Ramit sat down on stage, the shorter hem of his pants showed a good amount of ankle. I didn’t want that to be a distraction, so by making sure his socks and trousers always matched, we kept his ensembles consistent and clean.

Lastly, his shoes. While I love good white sneakers, I made sure we mixed his shoe choices with darker options on this trip. Why? Because this tour was in the dead of winter, white sneakers and light shoes, in general, can seem too summery.
NYC
![Image of Ramit Sethi in a multicolored cardigan.](https://nextlevelwardrobe.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/250111_MFC_NYC_3027-1024x682.jpg)
Day four of Ramit’s Book Tour: New York City.
Here, we had some room to play. New York is a fashion city, so this was the opportunity to wear a fun piece like this multicolored cardigan. The trick to wearing a bolder piece like this is to pull a color out of the print and wear it as a top or bottom. Or, when in doubt, go back to core colors.
So, we pulled out the blue tone from the sweater and matched it with suede brown sneakers and wide-leg tan pants.

Here’s a little bonus for this tour stop: I joined Ramit on stage!
![Cassandra, Ramit's Sethi's wife joined him on stage for a q&a.](https://nextlevelwardrobe.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/250111_MFC_NYC_3287-1024x683.jpg)
My goal was to coordinate with my husband without being too matchy-matchy. I opted for a neutral sweatshirt dress that matched his power casual dress code to do this. If you follow my Instagram, you know I’m not usually a dress girl, but I’ve been pushing my comfort zone lately.
I finished my look with metallic heels to brighten up the outfit and add my personality.
This was by far one of my favorite looks for both of us on the tour.
San Francisco

Last but not least, let’s look at Ramit’s San Francisco outfit. After several stops on the East Coast and Chicago, this was an opportunity to switch things up and embrace that California-cool style. Lighter colors felt appropriate here to amp up the approachability and casual vibe.
The jacket he’s wearing here is actually linen. It has a light texture and a stand-up collar that adds that dash of structure we love. He wore it over a ribbed polo, which reads as a contemporary twist on typical office attire.
There’s an Easter egg in this outfit if you look closely. His pants are the same wide legs he wore in DC. That’s one of the great things about dressing Ramit according to my NLW Style System: it’s a capsule wardrobe. It’s built on versatile, classic pieces. That means he could re-wear pieces without his outfits looking stale or repetitive.
(And it saved him room in his suitcase!)

When I joined him on stage this time, I went for a more classic combination of a white blouse and black trousers. (But I still kept things me with a pair of statement sneakers. When in SF, do what the tech bros do!)

This stop was particularly special for us because both of our families were there to cheer us on.
Ramit’s come a long way since his first book tour, and he’s even grown since the last one I styled him for. We wanted his outfits on this tour to reflect that so he could feel confident and so others would share in that confidence as well.
You can keep up with Ramit on his website.
