Have you ever thought about working with a personal stylist but confused about what’s true and what’s not?
In this article, I’ll help you uncover the truth about 4 common myths about working with a personal stylist.
MYTH 1 “Upgrading my style will make me the center of attention.”
During introductory calls, I get to know a potential client– everything from their current lifestyle, wardrobe situation and fears around upgrading their style. When we dive into roadblocks, I often hear “I don’t want to be the center of attention with my style”.
Most people think that if you’re updating your style, that you’ll end up looking like this:
When hiring a NYC personal stylist, you’ll walk away with a wardrobe that you LOVE to wear, reflects where you are now and you feel confident in- for any situation.

MYTH 2 “I need to be in perfect shape before I can hire a personal stylist.”
A common style challenge for many is weight transitions and dressing for them. This is something every single one of us will go through- I personally have had to dress for different weights over the past few years.
I believe that you shouldn’t wait to hit a goal size/weight to start feeling amazing in your wardrobe. In fact, having the right size clothing for your body TODAY can help you feel more comfortable and confident.
Remember that no matter where your body is, that you can use your style as a tool to your advantage (and it’s even been shown to influence the way that we think about ourselves!)
MYTH 3 “Only celebrities have personal stylists.”
For many of my private clients, they had never worked with a personal stylist before and thought that it was only reserved for celebrities or very wealthy people. But in fact, it’s the opposite.
Some of my clients include:
> a therapist, living in Seattle who recently started her therapy career and wanting to feel confident for her new job.
> an entrepreneur in NYC who owned his own business and wanted to have a style system in place to not only look amazing every day but in the most optimal way.
>a lawyer, just starting her career in NYC who was interacting often with partners and wanted to give the best impression to land big projects.
Having great workplace style is a skill, something you can get better at- you just have to have the right personal stylist in your corner.
Think of hiring a personal stylist as someone on your team to help you, the same as you’d hire a personal trainer with your fitness or a chef to help you save time and eat a delicious meal.
MYTH 4 “Personal stylists are too expensive.”
Nowadays , there are personal styling services available- no matter your budget.
Everything from apps, to hourly personal shoppers, to wholistic styling packages with experienced NYC personal stylists.
Remember, as with anything in life, you get what you pay for. So once you decide your goals and budget, just know there are various options for you to work with an NYC personal shopper.
